Offshore Technology Conference 2007
WHEN: April 30-May 3, 2007
WHERE: Houston, USA
This was a record year for the OTC – attracting over 67,000 visitors for a 25-year high and increase of 13% over 2006. There were 2,400 companies represented from 30 countries. From all accounts, it was another superb event.
Both GE's Oil & Gas and VetcoGray businesses had exhibits at this year's conference.
One highlight for visitors to our Oil & Gas booth was the new PGT25+G4 high-speed power turbine module. When introduced in 2006, it was rated for 40% thermal efficiency which was the highest in its power class. But we quickly improved this to 41% or better – another example of our efforts to continuously improve technology. We know that even the smallest performance increases in our products can result in significant business advantages for our customers. So we are always looking for better ways.
Another highlight was certainly VetcoGray's OTC TECHNOLOGY AWARD for the MR-6H SE marine riser system. A prototype was on display for OTC visitors. The MR-6H SE offers improved safety and efficiency for the offshore drilling industry, combining innovative design with the field-proven technology of the H-4 subsea wellhead and the dog-style marine riser. The new system provides fully automated connection capabilities which eliminate the need to place people in a potentially hazardous situation. It takes less than a minute to make or break the MR-6H SE connection, and a MR-6H SE string can be run in about half the time of a flanged riser system. These time-saving features can translate into cost savings for the drilling operator. Congratulations to everyone involved with the product for an excellent achievement.Congratulations as well to the organizers for an excellent show and thanks to all our colleagues and customers for sharing your time. We'll see you again in 2008.
